Austin Wedding Professionals Distinctive Spotlight Article

When you remember your wedding, imagine being able to say:

"Our parents, and entire wedding party, were stunned."

"My dance floor was so full the photographers were standing in chairs to take pictures!"

"We had so much fun I didn't want to leave!"

.... A bride who used Music4Life recently said all these things ...

When you get married in Central Texas, let radio talent from the "live music capital of the world" provide the sound track for your big day. Music4Life owner, R.J. Johnson, "DJ-RJ" has been on the radio in Austin since 1984. He's currently the assistant manager at award-winning KAZI 88.7 FM. RJ's lifelong passion for music drives his sincere interest and enthusiasm for creating the perfect soundtrack for your big day. Playing drums professionally since 1987, RJ has been a member of several local bands.

RJ's combination of on-air experience, music and technology knowledge, strong event planning skills and a superior level of professionalism makes Music4Life more than an average DJ service. RJ offers a detailed agenda for the entire evening, including scripted announcements to tell your special story, and special edits of music.

RJ brings thoughtful attention to detail to every aspect of planning your reception.

Here's one bride's story:

"I decided to meet with RJ because I was impressed with the testimonials on his website. At our first meeting he was dressed professionally and brought his laptop. He showed me how he creates a detailed agenda for the evening. So he knows how the night will unfold, and you don't even have to think about these things.

RJ creates a spreadsheet, like he has on his website, listing the music with the event – like 'first dance' with the song title, artist, and how long the song is. From the website you can do the same thing. If you forgot something at the meeting you can go back later and add stuff, and it updates on RJ's version, too. He was very cooperative, very team-oriented, and I felt like I was part of the process as well. On his site you can listen to songs. You have time to do research and see his top picks. It's a very technologically friendly site with lots of good info.

For another meeting RJ met me at the wedding location. This proved to be so important because he helped me decide on the floor location to keep guests dancing all night. I'd just been to be a wedding where the DJ was far from bar and couldn't get people to dance. So I asked for his help. I didn't want the hotel to give us a bad set-up.

And at yet another meeting RJ came to my house, and we set out a concrete plan.  I gave him iTunes off my computer, and he met my husband. In that meeting, which lasted seven hours, we finalized music, events, and announcements. I'd pick a song, and he would say "you're going to lose people with that one." He knows because he's done it so much as a DJ and he knows what works.

RJ had great suggestions on specific details. For example, my brother and sister-in-law got married last year and recently found out they're pregnant. So he timed that announcement and playing their song during the time I needed to get from the dance floor to the cake for the cake cutting.

He gave his agenda to the hotel coordinators, too. It was so thorough that two of the hotel staff coordinators got to go home early.

We wanted our families, both from out of town, to be able to relax and not get stuck with managing stuff. We were able to share the agenda with them in advance and get their feedback. This created such impeccable attention to detail: the groom's mother wanted the lights low for her dance, my grandparents, married for 56 years, had a special dance toasted to them. Our whole family was able to go online and add song selections to our playlist for us to consider. Both our families love to dance so it was great to have them involved.

For our first dance, my husband and I did a special choreographed dance. RJ came our last dance lesson to see it so he could time the announcement. Our parents, and entire wedding party, were stunned.

My dance floor was so full the photographers were standing in chairs to take pictures. We had so much fun I didn't want to leave! We didn't even leave until the hotel was turning on the lights saying it was time to go. It went so smoothly we weren't even exhausted the next day.

My best friend told me later her brother requested a really funny song at the wedding. RJ took the time to screen it first, and then politely declined to play it because of strong language. I'd expect a DJ to just put it on to make the guest happy, but he had the equipment and experience to listen to it first.

It's just thoughtful stuff that made my wedding perfect."
