About Melba's
Melba Copeland, Barbara Field’s mother partnered up with her brother, Gene Clements to open the first Melba’s boutique in 1965. The five-hundred-square-foot space was located on Hancock Drive in Austin, Tx. The sister and brother duo expanded to a larger space on Parkcrest Drive a few years later.

In 1989, they opened the Mesa location now the sole Melba’s store. Barbara Fields worked alongside her mother starting in 1965, and until her mother’s passing in 1995. “I learned a lot from her. She told me that when I go to market, if I have to look twice, or decide to think about it, that it’s not right for the store. She taught me that if we don’t love whatever it is the first time, we shouldn’t buy it.”

Ninety percent of Melba's business comes from repeat buyers. Knowing how to buy for this loyal group of women is obviously a key to her success. With a commitment to an elevated level of customer service and customer interaction, getting to know what the customer likes is not a problem here. “We have a long history with some of our customers, having been in business for nearly forty-two years. We provide personalized service and our customers become our friends.”
