Chocolate Proposal
By Jean Hailey

Vickie and Cody met in high school, became friends, and later found out that they both had a secret crush on each other. After meeting at Tony Roma’s for lunch where Cody worked during the summer, Cody immediately knew that Vickie was the one for him when she ate a full plate of ribs. “Cody never gave up on winning my love,” jokes Vickie.

Cody proposed six years later with a very elaborate proposal in chocolate. They had dated six years, and Vickie wasn’t really prepared for such an elaborate proposal. Cody showed up at the apartment in a beautiful limo and whisk Vickie off to Eddie V’s downtown for a romantic dinner. After a fabulous meal, the waiter served a special dessert; a plate covered with chocolate strawberries, rose petals and a large rose with a gorgeous diamond ring in the center. “Will You Marry Me,” was written in chocolate around the outside of the plate. “It was amazing,” said Vickie.

The newly engaged couple had seven months to plan the wedding of their dreams. They wanted an outside ceremony to enjoy God’s beautiful surroundings and Austin’s spectacular views, so they chose Nature’s Point for its breathtaking view and the warm feeling that it gave them. Vickie chose the “Fairytale” theme with sage, purple-pink, and champagne for her wedding. With the help of Cody’s mother and aunt, Vickie accomplished all of her ideas and sketches for a perfect wedding.

The wedding and reception were both held at Nature’s Point with an amazingly beautiful backdrop of Lake Travis. God provided a small shower right before the ceremony that brought good luck and a slight breeze to the July heat.

Vickie and Cody have a family that love to dance, consequently they hired a band to keep everybody on the dance floor during the reception. They started the night with a Czech tradition called the “Grand March” where everybody lines up and marches around the ballroom and ends up surrounding the bride and groom for their first dance. “I think this opened up the dance floor and started the night of celebration, said Vickie. The Texas Unlimited Band played all the classics for everybody to enjoy. “One of the best moments of the night for me was when I noticed that no one was sitting down.” “Everyone was up dancing and really enjoying themselves,” said Vickie. The groom’s cake was an Aggie theme, since Cody and Vickie both graduated from Texas A&M Whoop! “This was very important to us because we are both so proud to be Aggies, even in a room full of Longhorns,” laughs Cody and Vickie.

The newly married couple ended the night running through a parade of sparklers for the Independence Day Finale and headed off by limo to the Driskell Hotel. The bridesmaids made a “goodie basket” for them to enjoy on their way to the Hotel. “We were starving by then,” laughs Vickie. “Not only will I never forget our special day and honeymoon, but I also enjoy thinking back on the planning and the work that was put into a day that was surrounded by so much love and happiness,” said Vickie. “We had such a great experience and one that will be cherished forever!”
