Weekend Affair - Megan Scull & Christopher Park
By Jean Hailey
Photography By Kim Francois - Francois Photography

Megan Scull, a marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles, and Chris Park, an editor for Ignition Creative in Santa Monica, CA, dated, fell in love, and flew back to Texas for the weekend in September of 2007. Chris had planned to properly ask Megan’s dad for her hand in marriage without Megan knowing about it.

The whole family already knew that Chris was going to propose, so Megan’s mom had invited Megan’s brother, his wife, and her older sister and her husband over for dinner. Chris and Megan’s dad went outside to talk and when they had finished their discussion, Chris came inside and asked Megan if she would like to go for a walk so he could tell her all about the conversation that he had with her father. They walked down a very small street in Megan’s home town of Seguin, Texas, and suddenly he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. “I of course, said, yes,” said Megan. Everyone was anxiously waiting back at the house for the newly engaged couple to return. When Megan and Chris returned from their walk, the celebration began.

Megan, her mother, her sister, and Chris’ mom worked together to plan the wedding. Megan’s mom and sister were a huge help because they actually live in Texas and were able to do several things that Megan would have had to fly back to Texas to handle.

Chris and Megan were married at Villa Antonia on Lake Travis. All of the guests flew in Thursday afternoon and everyone stayed at the Hallows on Lake Travis. Their wedding was a weekend affair since most of the guests were from out of town.

Thursday morning Chris and Megan had a bit of bad luck, as they found out that one of the flower girls and the ring bearer would be unable to attend the wedding because their grandfather had just passed away. The two children were very upset. The ceremony and reception were originally planned to be outside, but Thursday evening after the rehearsal at Villa Antonia and the rehearsal dinner at the County Line, the weather turned from fair to bad, to absolutely terrible within a few hours. The morning of the wedding, one of the managers from The Hallows came to their condo to tell them that they were all taking shelter due to the hurricane strength winds and the hail. Megan and her family sat by the fire laughing about their luck, and the terrible weather. They were all crossing their fingers and hoping the rain would stop before the wedding. Luckily, the rain ended around three p.m., just in time for pre-wedding photos and for everyone to walk from the rooms where they dressed to the Chapel at Villa Antonia without getting wet. The ceremony and the reception were both held inside rather than outside as planned, which turned out to be perfect after all. Having the wedding inside made it seem much more intimate. The reception was filled with laughter, dancing, amazing food, and hours of fun. The newlyweds left the Villa Antonia at ten p.m. and all of the guests went back to The Hallows and partied the night away.

The next morning, the Megan and Chris woke up to a sunny eighty-degree day, which was perfect for their all-day party on the lake at Chris’ uncle’s house. They enjoyed getting to spend quality time with all of their friends and family and to relive all the memories of the night before. Chris and Megan left the party that evening and drove to San Antonio in order to catch their flight to St. Martin early the next morning. The honeymoon was a surprise honeymoon gift from Chris’ parents. They flew first class to St. Martin where they vacationed for eight days. “It was the most wonderful week of our lives,” said Megan. “We loved every minute of our wedding weekend and if I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t change one little thing.”
